12th Symp. on QoS and Security for Wireless Mobile Networks (Q2SWiNet 2016), in Malta

In recent years, wireless and mobile communication systems have become
increasingly popular as an inexpensive and promising means for ubiquitous
communications. In this scenario, the QoS provisioning and the management
of network security have become crucial tasks to determine the success of
future generation wireless mobile networks. This symposium calls for
cutting-edge research achievements on the provisioning of QoS and Security
in wireless and mobile networks. It also aims at increasing the synergy
between academic and industry professionals working in this area.

Authors are encouraged to submit complete papers presenting new research
related to theory or practice of all aspects of Quality of Service and
Security issues in mobile and wireless systems. Topics of interest for ACM

The skyrocketing growth of mobile internet and internet of things is overwhelming the limited spectrum supply, and thus triggering an urgent need for smarter and improved spectrum usage to eliminate the spectrum supply-demand gap. Spectrum sharing and spectrum aggregation are promising approaches to facilitate efficient use of fragmented and under-utilized spectrum. Many rapid advances, research opportunities and technical challenges are contiguously emerging. Motivated by these observations, this special issue aims to capture the state-of-the-art advances in spectrum sharing and aggregation, and foster new avenues for research in this area. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:

  •  Performance limits and bounds of spectrum sharing and aggregation.
  •  Spectrum sharing and aggregation across licensed and unlicensed bands.
  •  Spectrum sharing and aggregation in large-scale antenna systems.

Proceedings of the Conference will be published in IEEE Xplore and indexed in the relevant databases.

The need for new communication systems to cope with the demand of new services demanding higher performance, larger throughput, wider bandwidth and lower bit-error-rates, requires the development of new methodologies and techniques. Second International Workshop on Vehicular Adhoc Networks for Smart Cities

Scope of the workshop

After the first successful edition of the IWVSC'2014, the second edition will be held again in Kuala Lumpur. Vehicular communication is a key technology in intelligent transportation systems. For many years now, the academic and industrial research communities have been investigating these communications in order to improve efficiency and safety of future transportation. Vehicular networking will offer a wide variety of applications, including safety applications as well as infotainment applications. More generally, future communicating cars will evolve in a more intelligent environment also called smart cities. In this context, the interaction between intelligent vehicles and intelligent infrastructures will influence each other, to achieve each other targets. In one hand, the car drivers (or automated cars) want to travel in an efficient and safe manner and in the other hand smart cities would try to offer the best life conditions for citizens by reducing air pollution and noise for the inhabitants, and reducing traffic congestion with a better traffic information system for car drivers. Efficient interaction between vehicles and smart cities infrastructures is naturally needed to reach these goals.

At the same time the set of the communicating vehicles is seen as an Internet of Vehicles (IoV) platform providing several interesting capacities. First with the increasing number of sensors embedded on vehicles, a large variety of information can be collected and exploited not only by vehicles but also by other stakeholders (car markers, insurance companies, cities authorities, …). Second, the computing and storage capacities available on vehicles can form a vehicular cloud that can be exploited by third parties. Future smart cities are well placed and a natural candidate to take profit from these extraordinary mobile infrastructures.

IWVSC'2016 aims at providing a forum and to bring together people from both academia and industry, to discuss recent developments in vehicular networking technologies and their interaction with future smart cities in order to promote further research activities and challenges.

•       Vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications for smart cities

Call of Paper ICT Journal Volume

The Journal of Science and Technology publishes an issue on Information and
Communications Technology (ICT). The journal issue provides online,
open-access, peer-reviewed manuscripts of original
contributions in ICT-related areas. Manuscripts of both theoretical
contributions (including new techniques, concepts, and analyses) and
practical contributions (including system experiments/prototypes/platforms,
and new applications) can be submitted to the ICT journal issue.

CALL FOR PAPER:

Cognitive Radio (CR) is emerging as one of the key technologies to enhance spectrum efficiency for dramatically increased wireless network capacity requested by end users. A CR network aims to support highly reconfigurable devices that are capable of sensing the current environment, and adapting the transmission parameters to the specific scenarios, as well as meeting the corresponding Quality of Service (QoS) requirements.

The potential deployment of CR networks has been further augmented through various standardization activities supported by the IEEE (e.g. IEEE 802.22, IEEE 802.16h, IEEE 802.11y, IEEE 802.11af, IEEE 802.15.4m), and directives of spectrum regulatory agencies (e.g. the FCC in US, OFCOM in UK). These efforts have opened portions of the spectrum for opportunistic spectrum access and laid down rules for sharing the spectrum potentially for various novel and promising applications, such as smart-grid, Machine-to-Machine (M2M), vehicular networks, public safety networks, emergency networks. However, to fully realize the potential of CR networks, there is a need to draw the attention of the research community for developing advanced, context-based and innovative methodologies, techniques and algorithms possibly inspired by multi-disciplinary research fields.

The objective of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry to discuss the recent advances in both the methodological and algorithmic aspects and the novel applications of cognitive radio technologies. In line with such objectives, original contributions are solicited in topics of interest including, but not limited to, the following:

Scope of the workshop

The scope of the COCOA workshop is to collect and present new approaches and techniques for the understanding and efficient management of competitive and cooperative behaviors in future and emerging wireless networks.

One of the cornerstones of the upcoming transition to 5th-generation (5G) mobile networks is the sharing of infrastructure and network resources which, together with key enabling technologies (such as HetNets, service virtualization, massive MIMO and mmWave communications), will allow network operators to provide users with unprecedented connectivity and communications performance levels. 5G networks will also rely heavily on softwarization and virtualization of network elements and services by exploiting Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) paradigms. The efficient cooperative sharing of these resources allows for smart, flexible and efficient network management, but it may also lead to non-cooperative behaviors due to exploitation. While it is well-known that cooperative approaches lead to energy savings and performance improvements, there are some scenarios where cooperation among adversarial entities cannot be enforced, hence it is crucial to determine the fundamental performance limits of the network in a non-cooperative setting.

These two behavioral paradigms (both of which arise naturally in 5G networks) have strong implications on the network management and control processes of these systems. With this in mind, COCOA is seeking original contributions on performance evaluation and optimization techniques and tools from areas including (but not restricted to):


  • Conflict-aware flexible network virtualization and slicing
  • Resource sharing through pricing and reward mechanisms
  • SDN and NFV approaches for competitive and cooperative resource sharing in 5G networks
  • Cooperative communications for Cloud Radio Access Networks (C-RAN) technologies in 5G networks
  • Relaying-aided efficient communications in 5G
  • Economics for competitive and cooperative network and system management in 5G
  • Adaptive and cooperative learning for channel estimation in 5G systems
  • Centralized and distributed optimal resource allocation for 5G networks
